PostSubject: How to place roads in Create a world   Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:06 pm

I know a lot of people have troubles with roads in CAW, so here is a tutorial! They were a huge problem for me for a long time, but now I know how so I will share this with you!
~Sugarplumpixies

Open us CAW and turn on Grid mode (Button on the top tool bar with a grid on it). Click on roads, under roads and trees, and then click place intersection. Place 2 intersections like the picture below. They don’t have to be that far apart, but make them on the same grid so it will be a straight line.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now click place road and lay a straight stretch of road in between the 2 intersections, not touching either one but a few blocks away. To lay it click on one end near the intersection and the click the other end. Once you have done that press the escape key (esc). You must press escape or the road tool is still active and if you click you will continue placing roads.

Select the move button on the top toolbar, and then click on the straight stretch of road. You should see some little blue boxes, two light blue in the middle and 2 dark blue on the ends. The dark blue will be used as connectors and the light blue to curve the road.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now click one of the dark blue boxes. Drag it to the edge of the intersection. The road should only stretch, not fully move. When you click the edge of the intersection the box should turn light blue and the side walk should turn into crosswalk lines. Do the same to the other side.

Now I will show you curved roads. Place 2 intersections just like earlier, but further apart. Place a straight road somewhere beneath one of them and towards the middle. Use the move tool and select the road. Grab one of the light blue boxes and drag it to curve the road.

Now keep the road selected and connect the road to the bottom of the intersection, with the dark blue box like earlier.

Now place another section of road at a diagonal between the other intersection and the other section of road you just worked with.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Select the move tool. Curve the road with the light blue box like earlier. Make sure that the dark blue box is lined up with the other section of road like in the picture.

Now connect the 2 sections of road with the dark blue box by dragging it to the edge of the other section of road. The box should turn light blue when it is connected.

Do the same to the other side of the road and connect it to the intersection. Make sure the box turns light blue and you get crosswalk lines.

Now if you click on one of the intersections the sections of road should stay attached if you click and drag it. If this is all right, you can make roads! The biggest thing is making sure the roads connect, so always be sure that they are connected, especially between two sections of road.

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for this. I will definitely use it when I attempt to make a world again. The roads always give me problems and are the main reason I give up.
